Red Hot Pawn
I haven't written anything in this blog for a few months but much has happened, and not happened, since the last post. Trust me, you would be bored. One thing stands out above everything else. A colleague turned me on to redhotpawn.com. Ok, so it's pathetic to see a 50-something professional addicted to a chess website. Get over it, the site is great. I can play up to six simultaneous games with international players who don't suck for absolutely no fee. And I can do it naked if I want to with nobody the wiser (ok, more info than you required). Of course I will eventually succumb to get rid of the annoying ads, play in tournaments and participate in more than six games at a time. Its only money. But for now the site is perfect, a welcome reintroduction to the chess world I remember with fondness from my earlier days playing with Russian expats on the beach in Santa Monica. I will admit to getting lit up right now due to lack of practice, but of the six games I'm in now I'm winning five and hope for a draw on the sixth. At my current rate of progress I'll be on a winning streak in a month or so. Remember the chess song from Frankie goes to Hollywood? I didn't think you did but I loved it. The name of the song was "One night in Bankok. I never made it to Thailand but Luna did and I see it through her eyes. "The creme de la creme of the chess world with everything but Yul Brenner". That's me in the shadows.
Thanks for listening...
